Sri Lanka

A focus on four areas

Action for Sustainable Communities is working with a small Sri Lankan foundation that came to our attention via Trustee Catherine Brogan, who has worked with the foundation and one of its co-founders, Tennakoon Bandara, since her days as a Flying Doctor. Our work in Sri Lanka will be in our four principal areas of focus, as follows:

We will be promoting education through our support of a Montessori school.

ASC will be fostering health by supplying medical equipment for a health clinique that had worked with the foundation in the past. Needs are being assessed, with a final decision on equipment to be supplied expected in the early fall of 2021.

ASC is working with two orphanages, one for boys and one for girls, developing local skills that will help the children on the path to economic self-sufficiency. Both entities will be supplied with computer equipment as well as computer lessons. A study is underway to determine the best equipment for their needs. We will also help them develop and implement English language lessons.

Protecting the environment can be challenging for tea plantations, and ASC is currently in discussion with several tea planting communities that are seeking sustainable solutions to issues related to farming and fishing. ASC will bring its expertise and funding assistance to these communities’ quest for best environmental practices.
